The Therapist
By Gator_xx
Tim drove up to the white clapboard cottage with his heart racing in anticipation. It was almost time for his weekly therapy session. Soon he would see her. He knew it was wrong to have such feelings for his therapist but he couldn't help but feel very drawn to her. Tim had even confided in Frank about his growing attraction to Anne. Frank told him that it was normal to feel close to the person that had such a deep and profound affect on your life. Frank also cautioned him against mentioning to Anne how he felt since she might feel that it was inappropriate and end his therapy sessions with her. So Tim had kept his feelings for Anne to himself. And it hadn't been easy, since these feelings went all the way back to the first time he had laid eyes on her, 6 months ago in the hospital.
As he walked up the steps to her house, Tim reflected on their history together, how she had helped him return to the world of the living from months of being catatonic. He liked her calm, thoughtful ways and how she made him feel like he was a worthwhile person, someone deserving of love and compassion. Anne was attractive in an off-beat way, definitely not the classical beauty or the current idea of every women looking like that stick, Calista Flockhart. Anne had womanly curves, long, black hair touched with silver, heart-shaped face , dark eyes flecked with gold. As he closed his eyes, Tim summoned up the memory of her perfume, something that reminded him of vanilla and sunshine, very clean smelling.
Tim opened the screened door and walked into her office in the back of her house. He could see her just beyond the office in her kitchen toweling dry her hair. "Be with you in just a minute Tim. Make yourself at home. Would like something to drink?" Anne said. "Iced Tea might be nice, thanks" Tim said with a smile as he sat in one of the comfortable padded wicker chairs in her office. Her entire house was old fashioned and homey, but decorated in a sort of eclectic way, just like her. He couldn't resist playing with the children's toys in the office sometimes when he waited for her. She had a impressive collection of toys since the majority of her patients were children. Once they both sat on the floor and played with Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head during his session. He loved her wacky sense of humor.
Anne came padding in from the kitchen carrying a tray with his iced tea and her ever-present diet coke on it. She was barefoot and wearing a cropped white t-shirt and an almost floor-length sarong of brilliant royal blue with lots of silver jewelry as usual. "Sorry I'm a little late today" she said smiling, "But the waves were calling me and I couldn't resist a quick dip." As she sat down, Tim was surprised to catch a quick glimpse of a silver navel ring. "Shall we begin?"
All too soon the hour was over and Tim had finished talking about his rapidly disappearing problems. He and Frank were closer than they had ever been, truly best friends. Work was going well and for the first time in his adult life Tim felt almost happy and normal. "Before you go there is something we need to discuss, Tim." Anne said with a slight frown. She took off her tiny wire-rimmed glasses, rubbed her eyes and said, " I hardly know how to say this, so here it is. I can no longer be your therapist. You have reached the end of your therapy with me and I am going to miss you."
Tim stared at her in shock and said, "Why? Don't do this, I need to see you. Please tell me you are joking!" With a sigh she said, "Tim, I am sorry but I can't be your therapist any longer, please don't ask me why. It wouldn't do either of us any good." Tim knelt at her bare feet, took her hand and begged her, "Don't do this! At least tell me why for God's sake!"
With tears in her eyes, Anne looked deeply into his eyes and said, "I've developed feelings for you that are simply not right between a therapist and a patient. I never meant to tell you." and she began to weep.
Tim kissed her softly and ran his fingers threw her damp hair. "Anne, I love you. I have loved you almost from the first moment I saw you." He kissed her again, picking her up out of her chair and carried her out of the office, up the stairs and into her bedroom............
